What the app does
It reads the ingredient list on a cosmetic product and shows what EU regulations and named scientific bodies have published about each ingredient, with the document and the date behind every line.
What it does not do
It does not rate products, and it never calls an ingredient or a product safe, unsafe, toxic or clean. A label does not state how much of anything is in a product, and concentration determines nearly every real effect. So the app counts what is declared and states where a product sits among the labels it has measured.
Reading a label
Find the part of the packaging that starts with the word Ingredients, hold the phone steady, fill the frame with the list, and avoid glare. Small print is fine. If the read fails you can pick a photo you already took, or paste the list as text.
If fewer than three names are recognised the app says it could not read the label, rather than placing a product against the reference set using two names.
Subscriptions
Scanning requires Emollient Plus. Looking up any ingredient, reading any source and viewing a full example result are free.
- Manage or cancel. Open the App Store, tap your account picture, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the renewal and access runs to the end of the period you paid for.
- Paid but not unlocked. Open Settings inside the app and tap Restore purchases. Check the device is signed in to the Apple Account that made the purchase.
- Refunds. Apple handles all billing. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Privacy
Photos are processed on your phone. There is no account, no server that receives your images, and no analytics. The full policy is at /privacy.
Reporting a wrong reading
This is the most useful message you can send. Include the ingredient name as it is printed on the product, the name the app resolved it to, and the line you think is wrong. Corrections ship in the next update, because the ingredient data is part of the app rather than fetched from a server.
Accessibility
Every marker in the app is a glyph and a word as well as a colour, and VoiceOver reads the meaning rather than the symbol, so a section sign is spoken as an EU annex setting a condition. Type scales to the largest accessibility sizes. If something is unreachable for you, write and say so.
